Made in Brisbane
Materials & Responsible Production
Thoughtful materials. Made with purpose.
Slicer3DLab creates 3D printed products locally using materials selected for the look, performance, and intended use of each design.
Selected for each design
Materials We Use
Different products call for different finishes and performance. These are the materials we use most often.
PLA
Our primary material for many decorative, personalised, and functional products. PLA is a widely used bioplastic commonly produced from plant-derived feedstocks such as corn or sugarcane.
Great for: Decor, organisers, gifts, planters, and custom creations.
Matte & Standard PLA
Clean finishes, strong detail, and a contemporary appearance.
Best suited to: Everyday products, organisers, and modern decor.
Silk PLA
A more reflective finish for decorative and statement pieces.
Best suited to: Vases, sculptures, gifts, and display pieces.
PETG & Other Materials
For selected products that may benefit from additional toughness, flexibility, or temperature resistance, we may use PETG or another suitable filament.
Selected for: The product, its intended use, and our review of the requirements.
Our production model
Made Differently
Made locally in Brisbane
Produced by Slicer3DLab using our own 3D printing workflow.
Small-run production
Individual products and small batches without traditional mass-production tooling.
Made on demand
Many products are produced when required, rather than in large volumes in advance.
Less unnecessary inventory
Small-run manufacturing helps us avoid holding excessive finished stock.
Clear disposal guidance
What Happens to PLA?
PLA is often described as biodegradable or compostable, but it does not simply break down quickly in normal household compost, landfill, or the natural environment.
Some PLA materials may be suitable for industrial composting under controlled conditions, depending on the exact material, finished product, certification, and whether a local facility accepts it.
Please do not place our PLA products in household compost, FOGO, or standard kerbside recycling unless your local council or waste provider confirms that the specific item is accepted.
Designed for ongoing use
Designed to Be Kept
We believe a practical way to reduce unnecessary waste is to create products people actually want to use and keep.
Our focus is on useful designs, personalised products, and decorative pieces made for ongoing use rather than disposable consumption.
Our approach
Considered, Not Perfect
We do not describe 3D printing as zero-impact or zero-waste. Printing uses materials and electricity, while prototypes, supports, colour changes, and occasional failed prints can create waste.
- Choose appropriate materials.
- Produce thoughtfully.
- Minimise unnecessary waste.
- Create products worth keeping.
